While the real estate market is on fire and you have to move fast to make a purchase, you should consider a few things before you make an offer, as a home isn’t like another investment. This is a place where you will reside for years to come.

So, what are some important things to consider and not overlook? Here is a brief list:

Home Style & Size
While you may fall in love with a particular home, you also want to consider how your life may change in the future. Are you planning on expanding your family? Are you considering working from home? These are all things to consider and examine before you make that offer as the home maybe ideal now but less ideal in the future.

Quality of Schools
The home may be perfect. The right square footage, the right number of bedrooms and the style you were looking for. If though you have kids, or are planning to have kids, you will also want to look into the local school ratings. If the schools are A-Rated you are good shape. If they don’t have that high a grade, you may want to look at alternative areas unless you are considering private school.

Taxes and Cost of Living
Your location of where you buy will make a big impact on what you will pay in taxes and other living expenses such as sales tax in local stores, insurance (i.e. property and auto) and utility bills. Just because you can afford payments on your home doesn’t mean you can afford your new cost of living surrounding it and should be taken into consideration.

Purchasing a new home is a very exciting time and we at Alliant Title & Escrow will do our best to make sure your closing is as smooth as possible. Do your homework first though, you don’t want to make a mistake that you can’t fix after you close.
