While Closing Day on a new home is a very exciting time for new home owners it can also have a lot of new stress associated with it. For example, you may be making the biggest purchase of your entire life.
To help calm those nerves down here are a few tips:
• Remind yourself you’re not spending your savings. Instead, you are investing it in one of the best investments you can make – real estate. That’s because this new “Good Debt” appreciates in value over time and when you are ready to sell, there is a good chance you will be making some real money from it.
• Tell yourself that you can pay your mortgage down faster by paying a little extra towards the principal. This will help speed up your end goal of paying off the house faster.
• Review your closing disclosure in advance if you are able to. On closing day you will be seeing a lot of paperwork and a lot of places for you to sign your name. It can get very overwhelming. To avoid having to read everything with everyone in front of you ask if you are able to get the documents in advance. This way you will know what to expect and can have your questions with you ahead of time.
• Remember to commemorate the moment. This is a huge accomplishment and it shouldn’t just be passed on as another day. Ask someone in the room to take a photo of you and your family with the new keys and perhaps even celebrate with a piece of cake.
